Jack.com: nothing on this cashier could be read

Jack.com sits on this card with not one panel read. The banking page did not open, no published list of credited coins could be found, and there is no number to look up in a register. Nothing here was guessed to fill the gap.

The nine read cashiers here run from 35 to 180 on the width scale. Jack.com could sit anywhere on it. That is what the dash says: not read, so not claimed. Printing a zero instead would be a statement of fact, and there is no fact behind it.

When its banking page opens, the six panels get filled in and the reading date at the top of this page changes. Until then the page exists to mark the edge of the work, not to recommend anything.

Six blanks look like a failure and are the only honest outcome when nothing could be read. Filling them with assumptions would produce boxes indistinguishable from the read figures on the other nine rows, and no reader could tell which was which.

What it would take to fill the row: a banking page that opens with a coin list on it, a network list beside it, and a stated minimum. No login needed. No read so far has opened one.

The cost to a reader is that this row compares with nothing. The gain is that the other 9 rows are trustworthy exactly as far as the read dates printed on them go, and no further. If the page opens later, the six panels get filled and the date beside them changes.

There is a second reason to leave the row standing. Nine read rows out of nine would sound like a complete survey; nine out of ten does not. The empty row is the reminder that the list was assembled by somebody rather than found finished.

The same rule holds everywhere else on the card: a blank is unread and never zero. It is easier to see here, where all six are blank at once, than in a row where a single panel is empty among five filled ones — and the rule is the same in both places.
